Ali bin Abi Talib [may Allah be pleased with him] said: I asked Allah’s Messenger (upon whom be peace) about his tradition, he replied, “Cognizance is my capital, correct judgment is the root of my religious commitment, love is my root, yearning to true success is my sailing ship, Zikr-Allah, constantly thinking and celebrating Allah’s all-operating powers is my comforter, trust in the Divine Sovereignty of Allah is my treasure, sadness is my companion, knowledge is my weapon, patience is my medicine, gratification that Allah (Azza wa Jalla) is my Lord is my earning, inability to secure any achievement on my own is my pride, abstinence is my best skill, certainty is my strength, truthfulness is my intercessor, obedience to Allah’s command is my satisfaction, striving on Allah’s path is my set character, and the comfort of my eye is in Salat prayers”.
